Jann Haworth’s Lindner Doll (1965) is a soft, stitched female figure wearing a corset, made as part-homage, part-cheeky riposte to the paintings of German-American painter Richard Lindner (1901–1978). Whereas Lindner’s paintings suggest sexualised cyborg-esque bodies in rigid shiny costumes, Haworth’s doll is more awkward and vulnerable.
