JANN HAWORTH

AMERICAN, B. 1942

Jann Haworth (b.1942, Hollywood, CA) lives and works Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. Haworth is among the defining pop artists, whose distinctive and restless artistic individuality is infused with wit and material sensitivity. She was co-designer of the artwork for 1967 album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles, alongside Peter Blake. A pioneer in soft sculpture, Haworth has extended the reach of what has traditionally been deemed craft into the realm of fine art. Haworth is recognised as an advocate for female representation in the art world and uses innovative mediums to respond to contemporary culture. Her ongoing mural project, Work in Progress, made with her daughter Liberty Blake, began in 2016. It highlights the contributions that women around the world have made to the sciences, arts and social reform through stenciled and collaged portraits made by project participants. To date murals have been commissioned and completed in Salt Lake City, National Portrait Gallery, London, and World Economic Forum and CHANEL Arts & Culture for Davos 2025. Current and recent exhibitions include: Pop and the Figure, Pallant House Gallery, Chichester (2026); Pop Now, Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris (2024); The Shape of Things: Still Life in Britain, Pallant House Gallery, Chichester (2024); 60s Synchronicity, Collegialle de Riberac, Ribérac, France (2024); The Animal Within, mumok, Vienna, Austria (2022); Breaking the Mould: Sculpture by Women Since 1945, Arts Council Great Britain, Touring UK (2021); Beano: The Art of Breaking the Rules, Somerset House, London (2021).
