Khaleb Brooks is currently an artist in residence at Tuxedo Residency in Los Angeles, California. Last year Brooks displayed two solo shows, one based on archival research at the International Slavery Museum in Liverpool and the other based on ancestral memory and black femininity at Gazelli Art House in London. For the first time in nearly a decade, the artist is living and working in the US. Through the Tuxedo programme, they are exploring their personal relationship with the politics of blackness and its implications on mental health in the American context.
During Frieze LA week, Brooks will be collaborating with award-winning production company VAM STUDIO on a new project called The Well Retreat, an artist salon where creatives convene, process and share work that disrupts the status quo and interrupts industry norms. The event will take place on the 17th of February, 2023.
