Self Portrait: (Circa 1962) is a late work by Boshier, made in 2022 when the artist was in his eighties. In the painting he revisits one of the defining moments of his career: his emergence as a leading figure of British Pop in 1962. Boshier reconstructs this pivotal period through the imagery and visual language associated with his early Pop paintings, including the Pepsi logo and Kellogg’s imagery. Made six decades later, the work becomes a meditation on Boshier’s extraordinary and continually evolving career, reflecting on the relationship between personal memory, popular culture and artistic identity.
