Chromatic Reveries: Lali Binyatova, Rufana Mamedova, Farhad Nikfam and Shalala Salamzadeh
Gazelli Art House Baku presents Chromatic Reveries, an exhibition that celebrates the metamorphic power of colour in contemporary Azerbaijani art.
Chromatic Reveries unites a collective of emerging contemporary artists who deftly employ palette as a fundamental element in their work, crafting mesmerising experiences for the viewer. Through the approaches to form and perspective, Lali Binyatova, Rufana Mamedova, Farhad Nikfam and Shalala Salamzadeh offer a glimpse into unique worlds of imagination that blend with augmented reality.
Each artwork featured in the exposition serves as a window into the artists’ emotional landscapes, showcasing their vibrant and dynamic use of hue. One of the exhibition’s standout pieces, Spectrum (2019) by Farhad Nikfam, embodies the artist’s inclination to explore and define unfamiliar frontiers within the spectrum of colour combinations and the inherent power they hold. Nikfam’s works are characterised by his ability to merge the real and fictional realms in a parallel, existing solely within his subjective prism of perception. The artist possesses a keen appreciation for the details of everyday elements in our surroundings, weaving narrative threads throughout each of his pieces.
From bold, eye-catching compositions to subtle, nuanced explorations the exhibition further surveys artistic interpretation through the experimental series Soul’s Revolution by Lali Binyatova. Having firmly established herself in the contemporary Azerbaijani art scene by documenting and exploring the social fabric of her time and geographic region, the artist reimagines everyday life by incorporating culturally relevant attributes. In this series Binyatova breathes new life into subjects she once captured with oil paint. By utilising colour as a mechanism to alter the perception of familiar ideological components, she reveals the hidden realities behind her lens.
Likewise, the theme of reinvention and reinterpretation serves as a common thread in the works of both Shalala Salamzade and Rufana Mamedova. Salamzade’s Non-figurative series draws inspiration from the cultural and mythological reservoirs of Middle Eastern archetypes. Crafted via the use of artificial intelligence, the series amplifies the dynamic interplay of colour. In this creative journey, the artist invites viewers to contemplate the evolving nature of art, bridging the gap between tradition and the cutting edge of technology. Similarly, Mamedova embarks on an artistic journey marked by experimentation with various elements. Through her adept use of mixed media, Mamedova pushes the boundaries of conventional artistic forms, showcasing her unique voice in the contemporary art landscape, thereby further enriching the exhibition’s exploration of creative expression.
