In this collage/painting hybrid, Haworth continues to explore the corset and the necktie, motifs she has repeatedly returned to. Rodeo Queen connects to her earlier soft sculpture Cowboy (1964), a starkly monochrome standing male figure in a stetson, fabricated from off-white calico. A 'cousin' to this piece according to Haworth, here the masculine cowboy brand is subverted. Haworth references the beauty pageants of American summer camps, with the painted patterns on the layered canvas and transparent plastic sections featuring pinto-pattern ponies, sheriff's badges, and lace knickers.
