Wielebinski is an artist whose interdisciplinary practice explores gender, sexuality, and their intersections with power, identity, and embodiment. Working across sculpture, installation, video, sound, printmaking, and collage, they create an iconography that both preserves and disrupts familiar visual codes, constructing spaces that are at once recognizable and unsettling. Through this tension, their work invites viewers to question their relationships to images, objects, bodies, and the social structures that shape them.
Collage functions as both a material process and a conceptual methodology throughout Wielebinski’s practice. By layering histories, symbols, and forms, they challenge traditional modes of viewing while opening alternative possibilities for representation and experience.
More recently, Wielebinski’s work has turned inward, drawing on their own experiences of gender identity, embodiment, and socialization to examine the complexities and ambivalences of masculinity. Employing a politically engaged yet deeply personal framework, their practice investigates what it means to make, inhabit, and archive an artistic identity when gender remains fluid and unresolved.
Recurring throughout their work are hybrid, often “monstrous” figures that oscillate between beauty and the grotesque. These speculative bodies resist fixed definitions and propose new ways of imagining embodiment, creating space for identities that exist beyond conventional binaries. Wielebinski’s practice ultimately engages with the realities of the present while imagining more expansive and transformative futures.
