The Emerging XX belongs to Manal AlDowayan’s long-running The Emerging series. Across the series, the same motif recurs: a woman’s limbs break through the surface of a ground or wall, knees bent, ready to kick out and step through. The figure never resolves into a complete body, remaining instead at the threshold between the private sphere and the public one.
The work is concerned with this moment of passage rather than with arrival. The body remains caught between what it has been and what it is becoming, holding the instant before one posture gives way to another. This position at the crease is central to the exhibition’s understanding of the fold as the point where transformation remains open.
