Curated by James Putnam, Conversion, is a new large site specific installation by the Recycle Group (Andrey Blokhin & Georgy Kuznetsov) which focuses on the stream of virtual information that now flows endlessly from computers and mobile devices into all spheres of human activity. The Recycle Group’s project seems appropriate in context to the Biennale’s theme of ‘All the World’s Futures’ and Karl Marx’s notion of Historical Materialism. ‘Conversion’ proposes a parallel between the Christian enlightenment and the digital technological revolution where sacred knowledge formerly residing in the heavens is now located in the virtual space of ‘The Cloud’.
