Gazelli Art House Baku’s latest show is a mixed hang of artists Sara Rahbar, Navid Nuur and Simphiwe Ndzube.
The exhibition has an emphasis on multiculturalism, identity, diaspora and interconnectivity – all three artists are operating within a climate of geographical and cultural confusion to produce their own subjective artistic position.
Sara Rahbar (born in Iran, lives and works in NYC) explores concepts of nationalism and belonging, while her overall artistic practice stems from personal experience and is largely autobiographical – driven by central ideas of pain, violence and the complexity of the human condition.
Simphiwe Ndzube (born in South Africa, lives and works in Los Angeles, CA and Cape Town) produced work that is often a dynamic interplay of colour, motion and figures – shifting between 2 dimensionality and sculptural elements to present an eccentric magical realist expression of the black experience in post-apartheid South Africa.
Navid Nuur (born in Iran, lives and works in the Netherlands) shows works which repeatedly highlight the relationships between macro and microcosmos. He thus demonstrates the possibilities of art which – like no other form of expression – can create magic moments of revelation.
