Khaleb Brooks' cowrie shell sculpture chosen as slavery memorial for London

Represented artist Khaleb Brooks has been chosen to create a monumental 23ft bronze cowrie shell memorial in London, honouring the victims of the transatlantic slave trade.  The Wake, a powerful symbol of resilience and reflection, will be unveiled in 2026 at West India Quay, a historic site linked to the slave trade. Announced today on UNESCO Day for Remembering the Transatlantic Slave Trade and its Abolition, Khaleb's work, supported by Mayor Sadiq Khan, serves as a space of memory, belonging, and hope, urging us to honour the past while engaging in the ongoing fight for social justice.
