Plum over Pink (1961–63) forms part of Perle Fine’s Cool Series (1961–63) body of work that marked a significant evolution in her earlier Abstract Expressionist practice. Following her move from the city to the countryside, Fine shifted away from the neoplastic influence of Mondrian, allowing colour to become increasingly mixed and unstable.
