In the painting Yellow Mouse (2026) the titular mouse of the title may be smiling out from the lower right, but it takes time to find among domestic odds and ends such as a whisk and a bin, and the rear of a man in lederhosen. These fragments are set across broad pink, red and white areas of paint over an olive ground. Ghostly pentimenti of earlier drawings show through the paint, so the scene carries earlier versions of itself and its layers cannot be sorted into a tidy stack. Here, as elsewhere, narrative and humour unfold with the logic of an animated cartoon, but the picture refuses to be read in one go: looking becomes a game of hide-and-seek, and the joke is hidden in the ordinary things we overlook.
