The Map of Nomadizing Reimaginings: An Evolving Cyber Textile Map, Iteration 04 brings together textile, digital imagery, and accumulated memory in what Almagul Menlibayeva describes as a living archive. Hand-sewn recycled fabric and fragments of older textiles are overlaid with post-digital print to form a map spanning eleven sites across Central Asian and Eurasian territories, from the Caspian to the Aral Sea, and from Karlag to the Silk Road. Each location carries histories of empire, extraction and myth, embedded into a surface that is continually being altered and reassembled.
As the fourth iteration of the work, the map does not replace what came before but folds previous layers of memory and material into a new configuration. Ancestral textile knowledge and digital technology occupy the same surface, suggesting continuity rather than opposition. The work therefore becomes both archive and process: a map that remains in motion, preserving history by repeatedly changing its form. This understanding of inherited knowledge as something carried forward through transformation closely reflects the exhibition’s conception of the fold.
