Transposition is a site-specific hybrid VR installation that merges physical space and the virtual envionment into a journey through possible ecological realities; transposing capitalist extractive industry practices alongside indigenous preservationist culture. The work is physically defined by two branches covered with procedurally generated 3D-printed lichen structures and lasers. The branches form an arch that acts as a portal from which participants can walk through two distinct virtual realities: a pristine cave, a 3D replica of a former slate mine in the Lakes District (EN), and a procedurally generated 3D underground mine.
The VR experience is showcased with a uniquely constructed spatialized soundscape for both environments and features a wireless, free-roaming experience whilst retaining an unprecedented level of detail powered by Unreal Engine 5 latest features.
