The Emerging AP belongs to Manal AlDowayan’s long-running The Emerging series, which explores the moment a body moves between the private and public spheres. Across the series, women’s limbs break through the surface of the ground or a wall, knees bent, ready to kick out and step through. The figure remains incomplete, caught in passage rather than fully arrived.

The work holds this moment of transition, when an established posture begins to give way to another without determining what the new position will be. Within Everything Folds, Unfolds, Refolds, this threshold reflects the fold as a process through which one state persists within the formation of the next. The body carries the shape it leaves behind even as it moves toward what it is becoming.
