This fabric soft sculpture is from Rosie Gibbens' series Planned Obsolescence, inspired by the outdated joke of an office worker photographing their own body parts. Melding bodies with machines Gibbens produces a low-tech cyborg of sorts. Combining a fascination with 18th century Anatomical Venus wax figures and 1980s body horror films the artist's hand-sticked sculpture shows the cartoon-esque interior and exterior of a body; a self-portrait of consumption. The series conveys an apprehension about a future where our bodies become increasingly combined with technology, and therefore reliant on the companies who manufacture it.
