Maryam Yusifaliyeva is a multidisciplinary artist primarily working with traditional media – canvas and oil paint. Her practice explores relationships between human and nature, the organic and the artificial, addressing the loss of authenticity within a world of imitation. Through painting, photography, found objects, and text, she visualizes the inner tension between romantic ideal and harsh reality, examining the human condition at the intersection of identity, body, and social environment. The central idea and subject of her works is life in the digitized world, in a time of manipulation, propaganda, simulation, and substitution of initial sense and replacement of it with a sign. It is based on the contradiction between visible reality and imposed images by propaganda. She tends to focus on human feelings, body senses, reflections, and comparisons of our inner and external worlds.
