On May 25th 2020, Gazelli Art House hosted a discussion in collaboration with the Henry Luce III Center for the Arts & Religion in Washington, DC.
The conversation was between their current artist in virtual residence Michael Takeo Magruder and Dr Aaron Rosen – Director of the Center and Professor of Religion & Visual Culture at Wesley Theological Seminary. He features Takeo in his books Brushes with Faith and Art & Religion in the 21st Century.
In 2018, Gazelli Art House London presented Takeo’s immersive virtual reality installations A New Jerusalem as part of Enter Through The Headset 3 and Imaginary Cities as part of Enter Through the Headset 4 in 2019. These pieces – like much of Takeo’s work – bring together the virtual and physical worlds in ways that dialogue with both historical and modern contexts.
In this event originally held on Zoom, the speakers discuss these projects as well as other past and upcoming collaborations that highlight the intersection of contemporary art practice and theological discourse often found in Takeo’s creations.
