We are delighted to participate in Art in Mayfair this year with the public installation of Kalliopi Lemos' Corset (2017) on view at New Bond Street until 9 July.
This year's Sculpture Trail brings new large-scale, pop-up sculptures by leading artists to sit alongside the permanent works that have already made their mark on this lively cultural enclave of London.
From Lemos' Tools of Endearment series, the Corset seeks to spark a conversation about female human rights and societal oppression. The Corset, a garment that is historically associated with suppressing and reforming the body into fashion norms, becomes the armour of a giant female fighter and expresses the need to fortify herself with an armament of defence against gender injustice. The large-scale sculptures from Lemos’ Tools of Endearment series, come to deconstruct stereotypes and patriarchal conventions, while echoing the dual nature of women, being both warriors and feminine.
