After retopology, UV unwrapping and exporting from Zbrush, I make sure the displacement / specular maps are working correctly and start adjusting the lights.
Using Zbrush, dynamesh mode makes it really easy to extract the ‘friends’. I had problems finding the right colour scheme for these guys. Eventually I figured out they should all be tooth-enamel yellow. The layer underneath the flesh is supposed to be a sort of ‘trypophobic hieroglyph’ and the protruding heads have formed out of the same disease.
