Although the shark element resembles power and the top of the food chain, it is considered a "low grade fish" in the fishing industry. Caught on the same net as lemon sole and cod, there is not enough demand for shark meat from the restaurants, therefore they are thrown away and left to die in the sea.
The constrained position of the figure is an allusion to another hot topic; sexual harassment and the #metoo movement.
The handmade frame is made from found wood at Bombay Beach.
