Sonja Sekula (1918 – 1963) was a Swiss-American abstract painter and poet, known for her innovative contributions to the post-war avant-garde art scene. Born in Switzerland, Sekula studied at the Zurich Kunstgewerbeschule before immigrating to the United States in 1936. Throughout the 1940s and 1950s, she actively engaged with the New York art scene, collaborating with influential artists such as Willem de Kooning and Arshile Gorky, leaving behind a unique body of work that combined visual art and literary expression.
