HerE is inspired by the title of the exhibition Spheres, which I have been informed is intended to allude to the merging of worlds.
My installation HerE makes use of black and white as symbolic in that it alludes to the nature of ourselves in confrontation with everything around us.
HerE the word, contains 'er’. It is a sort of question about where we are in this world, or an exclamation about here! -‐as a moving concept – here, here, here. The word HE is also there(included) as HE is always there – a sort on omniscient presence.
My series of ‘Earth-‐Works’, which contains EartH, OWNART and ‘the new’ HerE generally makes use of local materials. Black basalt grit and white salt have been used. These natural materials serve as a reminder that art is often inspired by or literally taken from nature. (Sometimes synthetic replacements are used as substitutes but the metaphor of salt and grit still stands).
