In Santa Monica II (2000), the quatrefoil is paired with rectangular shapes reminiscent of a casement window. This in fact, has a specific root and goes back to 1995, when Irvin occupied a temporary studio in Dublin. During that time, he viewed the city through the large windows that were an integral part of his workspace. Since then, the window shape recurs in his work.
